Elements of the landscape that highlight my respect for nature

World View-1
World View (a microcosmic perspective on the future of global climate) The world and its climate is at a crossroads. With all the swings in the weather, the heat, and the violent storms, it’s not hard to imagine that the Earth is veering toward an unwelcome outcome! As I pause to study a microcosm in nature I wonder whether global warming has established a local foothold, and I am focused on the fate of this natural niche. Are these sightings of the future planet through a telescope or field of view seen with a microscope? These World Views are both; a change in perspective that enlarges upon the importance of climate change to even the smallest part of nature. One crossroad we passed last year is the first documented local weather effects of global climate change. Phenology refers to the appreciation of those local effects, and one of my hopes is that as local weather extremes become more obvious, people and governments will finally make the changes necessary to ameliorate the environment. This work has two sources. One is the health of tiny natural niches I stop to ponder on my daily hikes in western Connecticut and Massachusetts. The other is pouring over images of the globe on Google Earth, using the history feature to determine if I can see withdrawal of snow cover or the withdrawal of glaciers over the last 30 years. The image pairs in World View consider future climate in deep time, a future point impossible to predict. The different outcomes are stark, but the fact that there is a choice for a better outcome is hopeful! Presentation: World View prints are available in an edition of 7 with 3 artist proofs. The prints on Canson BFK Rives are float mounted in frames with Ultra Vue reflectionless glass. The image size is 22 x 22” in 24” frames. Custom sizes available.
